What an ATS actually does with your resume

An applicant tracking system (Workday, Greenhouse, Lever, iCIMS, Taleo, SuccessFactors and others) turns your file into plain text, splits it into fields (name, contact, jobs, dates, education, skills) and lets recruiters search and filter candidates. Some systems also rank applicants against the job description. Two things decide whether a human ever sees you:

    1. Can it read the file? Two-column layouts, tables, text boxes, icons and text inside images often come out scrambled or empty.
    2. Does the text match the search? Recruiters search for the exact job title, core skills, tools and certifications from the ad. If "accounts payable" is in the ad and your CV says "AP", a strict search can miss you.

This checker does the second part the way a simple keyword filter would: it pulls the terms that repeat or look important in the ad (skills, tools, acronyms, two-word phrases) and checks your text for each one.

    FAQ

    Is this ATS checker free?

Yes, completely. No signup, no upload and no limit on checks.

    Does it upload my resume?

No. The comparison runs in your browser with JavaScript. Your resume and the job ad never leave your device.

What is a good ATS score?

Aim for 70% or more of the important terms, using wording that is true for you. A perfect 100% usually means keyword stuffing, which recruiters notice.

Can an ATS read PDF resumes?

Most modern systems read text-based PDFs well. Avoid scanned PDFs, images of text, text boxes and two-column layouts. If unsure, send a .docx.

    Why does the country matter?

Conventions differ. A US resume shouldn't have a photo or date of birth; a Gulf CV should show visa status and notice period; British and American spelling differ. The checks change with the country you pick.
