Thank-You Email After an Interview: Templates That Don't Sound Generic
A thank-you email won't win you a job on its own, but a thoughtful one can tip a close decision, and a missing one can look careless. Send it within 24 hours, keep it short, and mention something specific from the conversation.
Timing
| When | What to send |
|---|---|
| Phone screen | Same day, 3–5 sentences |
| Video or in-person interview | Within 24 hours |
| Panel interview | One short email to each person, or one to the organiser naming everyone |
| Final round | Within 24 hours; add one value point |

FAQ
Is a thank-you email still expected?
In the US and Canada it is widely expected; in the UK, Europe and Australia it is appreciated but less standard. It never hurts if it is short and specific.
Should I send a thank-you email to every interviewer?
If you have their emails, yes, with a slightly different line for each. Otherwise, thank the organiser and name the others.
What if I forgot to send one?
Send it anyway within 48 hours, with a short apology or none at all. Late is better than never.
